Wardrobe Statement - The Polo Neck Jumper

A woman’s neckline is one of the most feminine and alluring parts of her body. I love drawing attention to this area by wearing statement or dainty necklaces paired with pretty, delicate blouses and dresses. You do not have to be exposing vast amounts of flesh for this area to look "sexy" less is most definitely more.

But at the same time, there is also something to be said for creating a sense of mystery around this area.

As the cold winter chill falls on the racecourses I find myself drawn to the Polo Neck (also know as the Turtleneck and the Roll neck). This high necked wardrobe staple creates a sharp silhouette, but is also perfect for relaxing at home as it comes in such a large variety. From sumptuously soft cashmere to chunky ribbed knit. When it comes to Polo Necks I love them all.

Think Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, all elegant, wide-eyed in skinny trousers and ballet flats, French women in trenchcoats ambling down the Left Bank, and Marilyn Monroe shimmying around in a skin-tight pencil skirt and pointy bra.

The Polo Neck is such a great piece to be worn to the races in the winter, as it is extremely versatile and can be used as a layering piece or just teamed with a great pencil skirt for a sophisticated look. You can wear with tapered trousers or even layer with a dress optimising the use of your favourite dresses. ASOS also offer a roll neck dress in various colours which when accessorised can also be a very flattering option, because they accentuate the face and elongate the figure.

This wardrobe staple is not restricted to the ladies alone, many gentlemen are also seen gracing the racecourses, up and down the country wearing a roll neck. It is a great way to stay warm and looks incredibly chic underneath a well fitted winter suit, or paired with chinos and a jacket or a coat.

If you want to have a wardrobe staple that will last you for years to come, choose fabrics such as merino wool, cashmere or even cotton. An investment in quality always pays off and will always make a difference.

Since both Scott and myself are going to be adding a few new turtlenecks to our own wardrobes this winter, I thought I'd share a few styles I’m craving. Without further ado, here are a few of my favorite high-necked jumpers available to buy.
