My Epsom Derby Hat in the making
Jennifer from Jenny Roberts Millinery was kind enough to make me a one off bespoke piece for the Epsom Derby.
We thought that it would be a lovely idea to show the transformation through all the different build stages, before the hat was complete and ready to wear on the Downs.
Personally I dont think people realise how much time and hard work goes into making each piece.
Traditional blocking of crown from wooden block with sinamay
Traditional blocking of brim from wooden block with sinamay
Hand Sewing lace around the edge of the brim.
Hand sewing petersham around the crown.
Sewing hand rolled pieces of pinopok fabric into sculptured pieces.
Finalising the trim but sewing and positioning the trim in place
For the finished article you will have to check back tomorrow to see it's first outing on The Downs!!
This hat will be available for hire after the Epsom Derby
